Trade Wars, Episode V:
The Portal Imp Guild Strikes Back

Our November and December roleplay event

Portal imps are essential to the function of the Sidhe Empire on account of being the only ones who can reliably navigate the portal network between the empire’s worlds.  Naturally, they’re a huge part of the transport industry.  As the story of this sim-wide opens, shipments just suddenly stop.   Any attempt to contact the Portal Imp Guild are met with endless transfers of department.  Even low-ranking guild members can’t get a straight answer at first.  But then word gets to them that there’s a strike going on, and most of those imps end up being part of the strike.

What has caused this state of affairs?  Some imps strike for the want of full citizenship.  Others say it is a coupe within the senior management of the guild itself.  Still others hint at a puppet-master in the shadows who is playing a longer game and the Portal Imps are simply their first gambit.  Conspiracy theories abound.

Whatever the truth, for the citizens of NeoLondon, this strike  means shortages of goods that begin as an inconvenience but soon escalate to life threatening.

We kick this sim-wide off on Saturday, 20 November 2021 at 4 PM, SL-time.  Meet in the marketplace.

We Have Many Levels

The simulations in Second Life reach almost 5,000 meters.  Since the SL viewer has a maximum draw distance of 512 meters, that gives makers the option to create skyplatforms.  Last year, the Lab added the ability to change the environmental settings at different elevations.  For the project,  that meant that we were able to create new planets at different elevations, or new locations to our characters’ homeworld of planet NeoVictoria.

Below are the current platforms and a little about each location.  All are 360-degree panorama (equirectangular) snapshots were taken using  SL Viewer 6.4.23.563579 – Second Life Project 360 Capture.

The pictures are currently hosted on the Flickr platform because it has the ability to support the 360-degree effect.  Click the photo to open a new tab that allows an interactive engagement.

The Visitor Center and Skymall

Here are the first places players visit when they teleport to the estate.  It’s out-of-character (OOC) and offers information on what folks need to begin roleplaying with us.

The Port City of NeoLondon [the landlevel]

This is the main roleplay area.  We have made a lot of additions to create the effect of a port city surrounded by rolling hills.  On this planet, the light is cast by the moon.  It is a twilight world.  The NeoVictoria SIM has free character rentals and the Machinima SIM has pay-for rentals.

NeoLondon Junkyard and Skyship Port

This is the shipyard, Skyport, and junkyard for NeoLondon.

NeoLondon Fairgrounds and Forest

A favorite place to celebrate the solstices, this location also has extensive forests, secret caves, and sacred trees.

Letwick, Planet NeoEdinburgh

Colonized by people from the highlands of Scotland on Old Earth, NeoEdinburgh is an ocean world with few large landmasses, but thousands of tiny islands.

Strand War Memorial, Planet Greenwell

This planet was almost completely destroyed at the end of the Strand War. This sector of the city has been left as it was at the end of the war and now acts as a museum and memorial to the struggle.

The captain and the soul-caster lead the NeoLondoners on a search for a missing soul cage.  Come play a townsfolk!  We are roleplaying this through the end of August.

Talk Like a Pirate! (OOC)

A celebration marking the NeoVictoria Project’s eleventh year in Second Life!  This live radio event, broadcast on Radio Nightingale’s Steampunk channel, will celebrate “International Talk Like A Pirate Day”.  There will be prizes for best in male and female costumes! Argh!!!

Every year we do a special roleplay cycle to celebrate our anniversary.  This year, we’ll be ELEVEN years old!  Look for many days of roleplay revolving around a terrible sickness that starts in the mind and ends …well, join us and see!

Photo Contest (OOC)

Begins 15 October and ends 15 November
Open to everyone in Second Life, images must be created in the NeoVictoria estate and relate to our storyworld.  The top ten photographers will receive Lindens!  The winners will be announced on Halloween.

Spend a spooky night in the skyclub.

Halloween Extravaganza 11 (OOC)

31 October
In association with Radio Nightingale, NeoVictoria is having a Halloween Costume bash to celebrate one of our favorite holidays. Radio Nightingale will broadcast the event over their main channel and we’ll have a costume party in the NeoVictoria Skyclub with a steampunk theme.  Dress your avatar in scary Steampunk, Victorian, Mecha, or Goth style and join us in Machinima SIM.

Bonfire Night Masquerade 8 (IC)

5 November
To celebrate the 533rd anniversary of Guy Fawkes Day, the city of NeoLondon plans a gala event.   Mr. Fawkes was a famous shapeshifter who used his skills to amass gunpowder (and it was rumored there were other fell objects) beneath the parliament building in 1605.  In imitation of Guy, don masks, change your shape and hair, disguise your voice (or rp style) and join in the frivolity.

Clockwerk Gala 6 (IC)

11 November
Often sponsored by local veteran associations, “Clockwerk Galas” are very popular affairs, serving as fund-raisers and recruitment.  The most amazing is held every Fall in Old London on Old Earth, it runs a fortnight with the oldest houses vying to raise the most money with fantastical parties and auctions.  The “Royal Clockwerk Ball” closes the festivities; its held in Buckingham Slithen and all the Court attends.  Here the most valiant of the year’s warriors are awarded the Sidhe Cross.

Our traditional end-of-year IC celebration.  As ever, tied to the actual Winter solstice!

Investigating a fountain in the charming FF Queensgarden

FantasyFaire2020 ended May 10th: It raised L$18,603,882!  That’s US$74,415! for Relay for Life and the fight against cancer.

This amazing number only happened because people cared enough to volunteer hundreds of hours to create content which drew players from all of Second Life.

This year, NeoVictoria sponsored the Queensgarden SIM (the site of this year’s floral-themed quest!), and hosted a series of Meet-and-Greets in Auxentios’ Pass.  We’re taking a moment to publicly thank the people in our community who worked so hard to make this year’s events such a success!

  • MadMechaMessiah, who held a lively class on cross-gender roleplay and for playing such a caddish part in the “Dating Game improv skits!
  • Asil Ares, who hosted Meet-and-Greets on April 24th, 29th, and 30th!
  • Jhaesoph Foxdale, who hosted Meet-and-Greets on April 28th and May 4th!
  • Sandi Grut, for being so entertaining to watch during our sample roleplay “Dating Game” improv skits!
  • Hmmmph Stenvaag for coming up with the idea of the “Dating Game skits in the first place!
  • TheOtherThing for donating the lovely lights to be sold at our RFL donation vendors!
  • AvaDelaney for contributing the splendid barrels to our little tavern/improv theater!
  • Stevie Basevi for not only shouting out our Meet-and-Greets to the Fantasy Faire groups, but for organizing all the roleplay events and classes during the Faire, and being on hand to handle land issues that cropped up!

    Starting 1 March, this is a grid-wide hunt featuring free awesomeness from up to 100 of SL’s most exciting makers.  As always, we’ll apply and if accepted, will have some lovely things in the skymall!

    Let’s discuss Fantasy Faire!  On this day we will have two events, one early in the SL-day for our EU members and one in the early afternoon for the folks in the Americas.

    The first of April is a holiday for the demons of the Sidhe empire …the one day a year they can play tricks on the citizenry with little chance of the authorities pressing charges.  What will they do this year?

    23 April to 3 May
    Celebrating its twelfth year, Fantasy Faire is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, role-players and performers in the virtual world.  We will sponsor and have a lovely build on one of the SIMs, and look forward to meeting new players and chatting about roleplay!
  • Summer Solstice Celebration (IC)

    Second Life turns 17 years old on 23 June 2020.  Hopefully the nice people who produce these birthday celebrations will give us a parcel again this year.  Look for a great build and gifts!

  • Photo Contest (OOC)
    Begins Friday, 2 October and ends 29 October
    This is a contest with a twist.  It must contain one of the gifts from the treasure hunt and be taken somewhere in NeoVictoria or Machinima SIM.  The top ten photographers will receive Lindens!  The winners will be announced on Halloween.

Our build for the SLB15 Birthday Celebration

The SL Community Celebration is a resident-supported celebration for residents of Second Life. The entire event including coordination of exhibitors, performers, volunteers and presentation is created by and for residents on a solely volunteer basis.
