Event Description

8 May (Thursday) Scene 9: In Asperatus.  NeoVictorians track down the robot and capture it.  It is caged in a rune lock and the professor is secured for the trip back to NeoLondon.  The city rejoices and a party ensues at Mrs. Chickenstalker’s Apothecary and Dry Goods Emporium.

[Gabrielle Riel of Radio Riel live DJ’d the event from 6 PM to 9 PM, SL-Time!]

We complete the roleplay today (Saturday) in Asperatus.  Join us at 6 PM, SL-Time as we return home to planet NeoVictoria with our prisoners in-tow.

Robot Emerges from Hiding
Timmon’s Robot lumbers to the edge of the hidden alcove the Professor told him to stay within. It has been a long time since the professor left. The robot knows exactly how many seconds have elapsed. Programming argues with artificial intelligence. AI wins. The robot emerges cautiously.
Professor Heironymous Timmons rolls his head, still strapped into the chair, the drugs from the previous night coursing through his system. He drifts in and out of consciousness, occasionally giggling or muttering something incomprehensible.
Val Prepares
Valentine ‘Val’ Adler pulled a bag out from behind an indiscreet slot in the shelves containing the professors belongings, “Ah, this should do the trick! Shall we?” He patted his pocket to be certain the key was there, then gestured for Sam to lead the charge.
It's Here
Asil Karu: almost falls over as she sees the robot walk into the store, as bold as can be, and make its way to the Professor. “It’s here!” She almost screams the words.
He had memorized the picture of the machine from the newspaper, so when he saw the robot, he brought it forth. “Ladies and gentlemen,” the sidhe said with a grin. “I think we should prepare for battle.”
Robot Down
Timmon’s Robot paused as the key made contact with the keyhole. A shutter ran across its brass housing, causing a high-pitched groan. It spoke. “Stop that, you –, yo–, y–” A sway, a stutter step, then a fall to the planked floor, the sound of crashing wood.
“Why don’t you do the appropriate thing and let him stand a trial? Who knows, we could see if he can reform in a jail cell.” As he did this, he sheathed the blade on his back. It’s bad when the battle-hardened and black armored death-elf is the guy saying give peace a chance. “Killing him is unnecessary. He’s obviously unable to harm you lot.”
Asil paints the runes into the air and the creature floats up and over into the sphere of light. The gears in the box begin to whistle as the runes lock the creature into a state of perfect stasis; every electric impulse is quieted until it is no more than a statue.
Valentine ‘Val’ Adler looked to the Professor for a long time in silence, stroking his chin as he considered the various things that could be done to the man. He at long last spoke up. “I believe.. we should keep him alive. We could use him.. even as crazed as he seems to be. He will be a free man by no means, but we will have to detain him someplace.. proper.” He nodded thoughtfully.
Lift Him
Myomy helps Val unbuckle the metal bracelets holding the professors wrists and ankles. She takes an extra sheet from the table nearby and drapes it over the sleeping scientist. “I will help you lift him, Val. On three?”
Valentine ‘Val’ Adler smiles, and carts off the professor to stow away in a temporary, padded holding cage until they are able to put him to trial.
She smiles toward the crowd and take a small bag of gold from her pocket. Walking toward the musician, she drops the bag on to their console. “A gift from Mrs. Chickenstalkers …drinks and food are on the house tonight!”
And the dancing begins!!

Event Description

8 May (Thursday) Scene 8:  In Asperatus.  The Professor leaves his lair in search of materials to repair the robot.  The lycans are able to track him by his scent and he’s secured to a chair in Mrs. Chickenstalkers, where the Auditor and the Editor appeal to the madman’s vanity.  He’s persuaded to give them a key that will let them catch the robot!

We continue the roleplay today (Thursday) in Asperatus.  Join us at 5 PM, SL-Time and help us find the robot.
Plus, we’re having a super-fantastic party from 6 PM to 9 PM, SL with Gabrielle Riel of Radio Riel helming the Asperatus land stream.  You’ll only be able to hear the tunes if you come into the Asperatus SIM, so do join us!
Asil Karu drops the shirt down on the counter before the two lycans; terrifying in their wereforms. “A gift from NeoLondon; from the professor’s closet in Lord Coat’s castle. I can smell the stink of him; I’ve no doubt that you both will be able to track him, now you can take his scent.”
Lucian Rowe makes his way across the pipes and bridges. The scent comes to him and he picks up the pace following ginger. She was not as big as he, but she seemed to be very skilled at the hunt; something to be respected.
Light Blub
Professor Heironymous Timmons leaps back from the brown wolf and attempts to run the other way, but runs smack into the white one. He twists his arm slightly, and the hook retracts to be replaced by… a light bulb? “Hah! Think you can intimidate me with your bulk, giant beastly things? Take this!” The self-assured grin on his face was quickly replaced with a gasp of abject horror as he realized he’d swapped out the gun with the light bulb some time ago.
Out Like a Light
Anya “Ginger” Greer would throw her arms around his body and jerk him against her chest. A long snort of hot air pouring from her nostrils to his ears, as the lycan grunts a few times – the sound not unlike laughter. Professor Heironymous Timmons shivers in the brown wolf’s grasp as claws tapped on glass. When the white wolf grabs his face, a few muffled cries are all that escape his mouth before he passes out.
Myomy pours tea, adds a little milk, and takes a grateful sip. Sighing softly, she looks for a chair and at last notices that Valentine is sitting nearby. “Oh dear me, Auditor, what an evening we had last evening, did we not?”
Is it he?
Valentine ‘Val’ Adler sees the wolves come in with a man-sized delivery, and springs up from his seat quickly to follow them behind. “Is this he …Is this Timmons?”
Lucian Transforms
Lucian Rowe looks over to Asil as he steps back, the man now secure and not a threat to many. He walks over to a canvas bag, one containing his clothing and find a corner to become the man, or at least the shell of the man he once was.
Asperatusians Watch
Asil Karu sees some of the Asperatusians milling with the NeoLondoner; as long as they didn’t interfere with the integration, she wouldn’t interfere with them. Let what they see be a lesson in how seriously the Sidhe empire takes any who would threaten it.
Lady Juliana
Lady Juliana took in their scent of rage; their hearts beating quicker in the moment. Her amber eyes fell on Ginger and she instantly would take her hand. She wasn’t sure why, but she kept the woman close.
Professor Heironymous Timmons bobs his head from side to side, a wide grin on his face. “And you’re not getting into my head even if you knock my hat off!” He looks to the fennec with a challenging gaze. “And after all the cathedrals of the empire fall, mongrel, you’ll find out how my creation’s stole manufacturing algorithm functions!”
Professor Heironymous Timmons: “And they’ll forget me as soon as things go back to normal!” The lightbulb on his arm retracts and is replaced with some kind of metal object resembling a key. “You see this! It’s the one thing that can counter my creation’s algorithms! This will be the proof to everyone that they were wrong to underestimate me! … Just try and figure it out! Just try! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”

Event Description

7 May (Wednesday) Scene 7:  In Asperatus.  Hungry,  the Timmon’s Robot leaves the Professor’s secret location on Asperatus in search of soul cages to raid.  It tries to hide from the NeoVictorians, but is discovered.  Two of the NeoVictorians confronts it, it attacks and they are killed.  The commotion brings a larger group together; the robot is attacked and badly damaged, but is able to escape.

The NeoVictorians return to Mrs. Chickenstalkers, with the bodies of their comrades, and determine to search out Professor Timmons the next day.

We continue the roleplay today (Thursday) in Asperatus.  Join us at 6 PM, SL-Time and help us find the nefarious Professor Timmons!
Timmons’s Robot emerges from its sleep state unexpectedly in Timmons’s lair in Asperatus. The professor, however, was nowhere to be found. “Professor?” it calls out in its mechanical voice. After searching the confines of the hideout, the robot pulls the lever sliding the hidden door open.
“I’m famished! I need more soul cages.” it says out loud as it walks out onto the pathways of Asperatus.
Another Night of Searching
“I just got word via the Watcher in our Apothecary back in NeoLondon that the lights are still out! And so far, no one has come to the shop with any news about the robot’s location. I’m afraid we will have to do another night of searching!”
“Asil, some one asked me yesterday if we had put out any bait for the robot. Pardon my ignorance, but what is bait for a robot?” Asil Karu considers, “We have the lamps, standard issue … and they are powered by souls.”
Red Confronts
Red was not sure how useful a projectile would be against a metal monster. But she had cast the die. “I said Halt, Robot!”
How Dare You?
Timmons’ Robot looks at the shouting woman’s pistol and processes her commands. “How rude of you, accosting strangers while waving a firearm about! I shall have to teach you a lesson! Prepare yourself!”
Red falls
Before she can regain her footing, the robot is upon her. Her body crumples to the floor, and then both her head and torso tumble from the side of the platform.
Ginger Takes a Wack
Anya “Ginger” Greer: “For goddess’ sake, it’s made of metal! Bullets ricochet—” She screamed as she watched the unfamiliar woman go down, too paralyzed to make a go for her as she tumbles off the platform and disappears in the clouds. “Oh that it!” She leaps towards the robot, aiming for it’s neck joint with her lycan claws, snarling.
Emergency cooling procedure activated
When internal heat levels begin rising rapidly, a line of holes on its sides open and vent steam with a deafening hiss. “Emergency cooling procedure activated” escapes from the robot’s vocalization mechanism, though likely drowned out by the steam’s deafening racket.
Ginger Transforms
Anya “Ginger” Greer snarls as bones rearrange and fur emerges from flesh; she leaps upwards with a howl, and balls her large hands together to bare down on the top of the bots head with tremendous force, likely causing the walkway to tremble in her wake.
Kieko Falls
Kieko is caught unawares with the kick from the robot….using both hands to hold on to the torch…she steps back….realizing that it’s open air….she lets go of the the torch….”OH THUNDERBOLTS!!!!” trying frantically to grab onto something with her hands…..
Good Girl
Anya “Ginger” Greer snorts and glares down at the bot, tail swaying back and fourth. In the back of her mind, she thinks, ‘I’m a good girl.’
Robot Falls
Valentine ‘Val’ Adler looks down at the fallen mech, “Whatever we decide to do …we need to try to extract as much information from it as we can …without risking injury …at all costs.”
Robot Escapes
Dame Rowena Desade lunges at the robot at it starts to move, a curse bursting from her lips as the tip of her sword misses the robot’s chassis. As the jets unfold, she takes a step back in an attempt to keep rocket exhaust from catching her uniform on fire. She followed the path of the robot as her brow furrowed in anger.
Kit Reacts
Kit let out a squeal as the robot bounced back up, eyes wide until the creature seemed to disappear over the roofs. “Really? Coward!”
“The cursed thing escaped, but not after shedding blood. Two people died tonight, because I failed.”
Get Timmons
She looks at the tired faces, “Perhaps we are searching for the wrong entity; its Professor Timmons that holds the key. Let’s concentrate our effort on him tomorrow.”

We pick up the roleplay in Asperatus at 6 PM on Wednesday.  All welcome.  Visit Mrs. Chickenstalkers (or the NeoVictoria shop off the main rezz point) to pick up information about the roleplay and some fun props).

Robot Wanted
Have you seen this robot? Reward! Report to Mrs. Chickenstalker’s on Asperatus
Asil Karu: nods, hearing their news and plops another bunch of papers on to the counter. “Perhaps its time to take it to the streets? See if the people in the town have seen the robot or the professor? We got a new batch of papers from home, courtesy of the portal imps.”
Myomy smiles at the Admiral and hands her a sheaf of the papers. Then she heads out.
She spies Kit looking ready to go and approaches her. “Ready to find a robot?”
Coming to them
She glanced over when she heard Lucinda and grinned. “Of course, want to hunt together?” She beamed. Her dagger and derringer were strapped at her belt and leg. She almost felt like bouncing. “That robot and mad man will get whats coming to them.”
“To make matters worse, the guard confiscated the swords. I foolishly let them go thinking I’d get them back.” he walked over to Hmmph.
Hmmmph: “Tsk Tsk…didn’t put a fight for your swords…or at least a good tale? I told the guards I used my sword to cut up sushi”
“It seems like a lonely part of town. Perhaps the customers have been enticed elsewhere. Which could make for some cozy hideaways for our targets.” Lucinda Jane Strathmore says, moving on to the next stop.
Is it a danger?
Alyia Alyia takes the newspaper carefully, looking over the picture. She sets it on the counter with a frown, “Unfortunately I have not,” she replies, “Is it a danger?”
Join Us?
Myomy finds Ginger on her path to the next store. “Ah, you made it! The Admiral and I were just about to head to those other pilings over there to see if a robot could be hiding there. Want to join us?”
Hello Destany
Myomy approaches the demoness; “Hello Destany! Say, have you seen that evil robot I was telling you about?
Demon Watching
The demon watches them hunt.
“Miss Asil..” He nodded a greeting. “Not on my end. I took to the sky and looked in as many glass ceilings as I could find, and nothing appeared at first glance to turn up. It is still early.. I have faith we will locate the traitor.”

Event Description

5 May (Monday) Scene 5:  In NeoLondon [NeoVictoria SIM] & Asperatus.  The rift-ship of Admiral Rowena Desade takes the NeoVictorians to Asperatus.  They settle in at Mrs. Chickenstalker’s Apothecary and Dry Goods Emporium, then head out into the town, in pairs, to spread the word about the robot, the professor and the reward.

We pick up the roleplay in Asperatus at 6 PM on Tuesday.  All welcome.  Visit Mrs. Chickenstalkers (or the NeoVictoria shop off the main rezz point) to pick up information about the roleplay and some fun props).

Lucinda Jane Strathmore rifles through chests, hurriedly looking for things to take on the journey. Not time to grab all the trunks, they’d be traveling light. She slips several tools into her clothes. Grappling hook and launcher? Check. Inflatable pillow? Check. Stealth camera? Check. If she hadn’t sewn in holsters and pockets for all the things she was taking, she’d be jingling like a wind chime shop in a storm!
Are you coming to Asperatus
“Are you coming to Asperatus?” Kit stares up at the ship, eyes widening a little before she heard Asil. “Y-yeah. I mean yes I plan to assist” She added in a more sure tone.
Hmmmph looks up at the Airship, gives a shudder…remembering the last time she was on an airship….lost her stupid sword…makes a resigned sound
Why We Fight
Myomy nods emphatically to Lucinda. “If our very lives and the fate of the empire wasn’t at stake, I would be a very happy editor at the moment!” She smiled and then tried to curb her enthusiasm.
Asil Karu walks into the hull of the ship with the rest of the crew, excited to be going. She hasn’t met the woman at the helm, but a ship like this … they must be extraordinary. She would catch Kit’s gaze and smile; an adventure!
Leaving NeoLondon
Dame Rowena Desade finishes inputting the coordinates, and nods as the jump is plotted. She puts her hands on the controls and reaches for the controls. “Everyone brace yourself. I have faith in my ship but the ride might be a little bumpy.”
The Voyage
Asil Karu feels the great engine begin to surge and her third-eye knows the sudden terrible otherness that is the rift when the void opens to swallow them up. NeoLondon disappears like a dark twinkly sense of home and there is only the cold and the darkness.
Landing in Asperatus
Dame Rowena Desade set the airship down on the landing pad on top of the Asperatus. The trip had been rough, the ship being buffeted by the massive air currents common in jump travel. “Well that was not quite as bad as I thought it would be.” She looks down and examines the control console. “It looks like the ship came through intact as well.”
Jumping Down
The small wings flapped slightly as she lowered herself to the ground and let the wings vanish once more. “So what now?” She asked, a little scattered after the flight.
We're Expected
Hello sir, I am Asil, the manager of Mrs. Chickenstalker’s in NeoLondon. I had a dispatch from Mrs. C herself assuming me that your staff was expecting us?”
Portal Imp
Rondolfo del Stiletto XV responds to the questions in a similarly jaded fashion. “Crazy ranting guy and a robot? The one with the navy coat or the one with the cyan one? Either way they both just bought some salmon ravioli and left.”
Val Opines
Valentine ‘Val’ Adler looks around to the group, who seem to have varying levels of attention at this juncture. “I say we start the search immediately. Mayhaps we should break off into pairs or small groups?”

At the NeoLondon Times Office:

Myomy sets the candle lantern down beside her press, and attaches the portable power rigging to the intake coils. She crosses her fingers and throws the tiny switch. A spark. A chittering sound. Then the chase bed starts to move. Slowly it swivels forward, then more quickly moves back into place. Myomy inks the platen, sighing with relief.

In front of Lord Coat’s Castle:ffrp4_003

Valentine ‘Val’ Adler seemed pretty perturbed with the start of the new day, having been wearing the same suit he had before – a feat uncommon of the particularly well cleaned and put-together man. He slept in the castle that night, to attend to his bleeding prisoner, and to be certain he could not escape.

Lucinda Jane Strathmore  grabs the documents she’d gathered as well as the computational device from the desk, heading down to show them to the Auditor before reporting back to Myomy at the Times. “Here’s what I’ve gathered so far. From the looks of the maps stored on this thing, it looks like he had multiple escape routes planned. He certainly was prepared.”

Valentine ‘Val’ Adler strolls right up to Myomy, “Madame.. listen very carefully. A man by the name of Professor Timmons has created a bot, with the aid of Lord Coat – the castle occupant – that is capable of doing an endless amount of damage to not just NeoLondon, .. We must get the word out to the people of this town, as quickly as possible! ”

Rowena Desade: Nods her head in greeting to the well-armed man before taking his hand in a firm grip. “I am pleased to meet you Mr. Hellwalker. I am Dame Rowena Desade, Knight of the Realm and Admiral of the Fleet. I just recently arrived at this backwater and could not help but notice the commotion.” ffrp4_009

Rowena Desade: watches him go before turning and approaching the tall and slender man. “I do have a ship. It is my personal yacht, though armed it is certainly not very big. Do you think we will have need of it Sir?”

Valentine ‘Val’ Adler tucks the business card in his pocket and looks to the pilot. “Oh yes, we’ll need that vessel.” He pulls a notebook from his coat and jots down something on a piece of paper, tearing it out quickly and folding it. He holds it out to the side away from himself, and a small glowing porthole opens just enough for the note to disappear into. “I’m calling in a personal favor, if we need it.” He noted. “Yes, Myomy, certainly. We need all we can gather. We’re going to…” He checks the maps. “Asperatus … of the Faire lands.”

Event Description:

In NeoLondon [NeoVictoria SIM].  Val Adler, Auditor of the Sidhe Empire and Watcher of the Cathedral, gathers the citizens together to search for the robot.  They confront Lord Coat and his doxy, the mysterious Lady Zee.  During the confrontation, Professor Timmons escapes the planet with his robot in tow.

The roleplay continues tomorrow … join us at 6:00 PM, SecondLife-time when  we bring the story to Asperatus (or just tune in to this page for the update)!

Val Rallies the Troups
“Alright.. you.” He focused on Sam, speaking a bit loudly and clearly in case his hearing was dulled. still. “Where did you hear this conversation?”

Professor Heironymous Timmons scrambles to find the tools needed to quickly repair the robot, knocking several unrelated tools on the ground. “Come on, where’s that blasted… Here it is!” He switches out a damaged piece of plating with frightening speed, then sealing the seam with wax for waterproofing. He had to get out of here in a hurry. Infamy is only worth it if you live to read the headlines!

Lord Coat Questions Timmons
Distant clamoring from the lab? Suspicious, the serpent rose and slithered his way towards the lab, pushing the door open. “Timmonssss…? What issss all thissss.. noisssse? Issss there more progressss?”
We Are Discovered
“Yes, yes!” he says, sounding even more unhinged than usual. “The plan unfolds quite well, but now we must make haste! The forgetful ones have remembered us now, and they’re surely coming! Just look what they did to my creation!!!!” Lord Coat snarls “I can hold them off… Finish it, Timmonssss… Finish it and get out while you can. If you go through the dungeon, stick to the wallssss and the ssentinalssss ssshould leave you alone. … “DO NOT DISSSSAPPOINT ME….”
Val Meets Seito
Valentine ‘Val’ Adler glances up to nod at Lucinda, when he sees a figure hugging the shadows of the edge of the woods. You.. Have you come to fight? Did a fox send you?” His eyes narrowed thoughtfully. Perhaps he was overlooking the possibility of there being more enemies than expected. Seito replies: “No, no. I was in the tunnels, gathering ingredients.” He gestures with the hand holding the roots, his skin shiny with moisture, looking much like a tight fitting glove. He quickly stuffs the roots into a pouch on his belt, “Mine….” He then shakes his head again. “No, no one has sent me. I am on my own business, yes.”
Must Go Now
Timmon’s Robot begins its calculations…instantly having a destination ready for the Professor. “This unit is sufficiently repaired. Ready to depart” Lifting off of the table, Joints creaking as it moves…jumping off the table, making a loud thud. It walks to the exit …”Must go now”
“Ah guestssss, sssso lovely to have you. Had I have known there would be ssso many of you, I would have prepared a ssspread. Or, at leassst tea.” His ton was mocking as he stared at the men. “How can I ssssserve you… gentlemen?”
Professor Heironymous Timmons follows the robot out of the lab, leaving everything but a bag full of tools behind. So fortunate that Lord Coat had volunteered to hold off the townsfolk, this plan was working even better than expected!
Confronting Lord Coat
The Auditor stepped forward first to greet the Lord of the house. “Lord Coat.. also known as.. the demi-god Xiuhcoatl.. I am here to accuse you of endangering the lives of the entirety of this town.. of this planet, and of conspiring with other parties to overthrow the Empire. What have you to say for yourself?”
Lord Coat Laughs
“Hmm.. What makessss you think I have anything to do with that? Perhapssss I’ve merely had a houssse guessst to while away the lonessssome hoursss..” Even he wasn’t convinced of that lie, as he tilted his back to let out a bellowing laugh. “You have no proof of these accusations, Auditor!”
Lady Zee Enters
Her sharp shark-like teeth caught the candle light as she pushed open the doors. A sharp gust of cold air would accompany her and a slight scent of flowery decay floated on the air. “Oh…hello there”
Custody 2
“He has been attempting to overthrow the Empire, Madame. This is no longer a matter of jurisdiction. I will take him into custody, whether you cooperate or not.” Val spoke firmly, blue eyes darkening to a charcoal grey.
Zee's Warning
“Kill him and my jurisdiction is removed. I will take you all across the veil. He has attacked you first, I cannot protect him, take him where you must. If he dies as a result of this, I take you all.”
Lucinda Snoops
Lucinda Jane Strathmore takes advantage of the commotion downstairs to sneak into the lab and do some digging.

Some very very scary people.  Val Adler shares this information with the group and Sam shares what he discovered at the castle the previous evening. Robot in the Cathedral
As it approaches the door, the air grows still and warm, a heat haze starts to shimmer the closer you get. The door seems to hold a flaming glow, leaving it wonder, “Will you be burnt? Touch the door and it will open; how fares your hand?” Ignoring this emote the robots moves forward to the door and with one large swing of its arm smashes open the door and clambers inside the Cathedral.
Attacking the Core
Making it’s way over towards the organ of the power centre it thrusts a robotic arm into the organ. The Strand motes stream out of it’s arm flooding into the organ’s central force.
What Happened?
Golden wings rose from his back as he dove down the spiral staircase to go to the side of his charge. “Cerridwen!!”
Cerridwen Glows
Her hands and feet begin to glow from white to blue. She sees Valentine hovering before her and her eyes are wide and she holds her hands out for him to see, “Something is affecting me …it is like, … like …” her voice is hollow, never has she sounded more like a machine.
Confronting the Robot
Aware of some lowly beings coming towards it, the robot removes it’s construct armature from the control and swings round to face them.
Robot Escapes
Another strike from the first attacker makes the robot swing round at it with the limb that’s left and at the same time sprays motes into it’s face and the celestial’s direction while still screeching at a deafening pitch. Pushes forward once again towards the entrance to the cathedral, it makes its escape.
Val Falls Back
Valentine ‘Val’ Adler fell backwards at the force of Cerridwen’s energy, looking up from behind his shielding arm to peer at the great machine. “Cerridwen.. what.. what has happened to you..? What…”
Learn More
Her voice picks up the pace a bit. “You must learn more about this crude clockwerk; track it down! Take the ones who linger here and hunt that creature down before …the warding that djinn placed on the Queen’s portrait is consumed and we are exposed.
Val Adler Shares the News
Come with me, we must track down that bot!” His voice was determined, his eyes filled with an unusual blackness, “That is, if you value your sanity, and your lives..!
Motes Attack Cerridwen
The motes from the robot enter one of the secondary systems of the central core, flowing through the aether currents like an invading virus. They hit the central core and she begins to feel her body temperature rise.
Cerridwen in Flames
Her energy bubble begins to glow and she is almost impossible to discern; a ghostly female shape in an inferno of energy.
The Cathedral Dims
Myomy is sitting at her desk in her office, scrutinizing artwork for the new edition of the society pages when the lights go out. In the sudden dark, she sits bolt upright, listening for sounds that might explain the blackness.

Meet Our Sponsors ~ The NeoVictoria Project

This is your first year sponsoring Fantasy Faire. What made you decide to become a sponsor?

The Synthetic
Asil Ares as “The Synthetic”
One of the major arcana in the Steampunk Tarot.

Asil Ares: Virtual worlds fascinate me and I find Second Life™ particularly compelling, because its content is created by its players …SL doesn’t have to be a creatively passive user experience.   But, the grid is vast and it can be difficult for people to find their niche.  Big well-run events, like Fantasy Faire or Burning Man or the Second Life™ Birthday Community Celebrations, are ways to bring like-minded people together and help them find connection.

What makes Fantasy Faire especially compelling is that it is fund-raising for a really important cause:  Relay for Life and the fight against cancer.  Every year I go to the Faire and every year, it just gets better.  Last year was one of the best SL events I’d ever seen;  I was determined to get involved.  The members of the NeoVictoria Roleplay Group agreed, so we decided to sponsor one of the steampunk fairylands.

How did you begin roleplaying in Second Life?  How did NeoVictoria come into existence?

NeoVictoria: dark roleplay, steampunk style
The NeoVictoria Project …a steampunk experiment in machinima and dark roleplay

There are all kinds of roleplay communities in SL, and yes …the ones that get most of the press are salacious.  However, the one that first caught my attention was created around a unique post-apocalyptic world replete with demons, angels, vampires and the occasional human. I’m writing about The City of Lost Angels, created by Suzanna Soyinka.

I stumbled upon this immersive storyworld and its addictive combat meter via an article on open sourcing; I loved playing RPGs in school, so decided to check it out.  It took about three months to totally reel me in!

"Kwekwe Turned"
“Kwekwe Turned”
A machinima by Asil Ares

It amazed me, how much time and energy the residents of these  communities invested in their characters and roleplays.  As is often the way, I found myself joining several clans (or factions) in different subscribing SIMs. I became very close with some of the players, including my dear roleplay “cousin” Kwekwe Karu, who wrote a wonderful short story about how our characters met. This backstory became the source material for my first serious machinima, “Kwekwe Turned”.

Mask'd Ball at the Castle
Mask’d Ball at the Castle

After that, it was only a matter of time before I learned I needed the technical control of a full SIM to shoot machinima the way I wanted to make it.  And then, the desire to expand that vision into a community began to take hold.  That’s how NeoVictoria, as a SL simulation, formed in my mind.  I’ve always loved Steampunk, so when I dreamed about creating a world, it was those kinds of images that came to me.  And I loved the possibility of a community whose roleplay isn’t lost once the scene is over.  The NeoVictoria Project™ is very much a mixing of those themes and desires.

What can we expect of NeoVictoria during the Faire?  Will you be roleplaying in Asperatus?  Are the visitors welcome to join in or is it more a performance?

The Revenge of Professor Timmons

Visitors can expect some nice gifts to be found in Mrs. Chickenstalker’s Apothecary and Dry Goods Emporium (that’s the name of our store on Asperatus).   And they can look forward to some exciting and engaging roleplay, which they are most welcome to join!

The story NeoVictoria will play at the Fantasy Faire is called “The Revenge of Professor Timmons.” In it, the professor has built a treacherous robot, which damages our town’s power center.  They  then make their escape to Asperatus.  We townsfolk chase after these miscreants, so there will be lots of excitement, fighting in the streets, and general mayhem going on. In the end, we will capture the bad guys, and there will be a great big celebration on Friday, 9 May  (with Gabrielle Riel of Radio Riel fame as our live DJ).  After which, we will return the evil doers to NeoVictoria to receive their just desserts.

For those interested in keeping abreast of developments, or who plan to join us in roleplay, we’ll be posting alerts and daily updates to  our page on the Fantasy Faire website.

What calls you to fantasy and steampunk? When was the first time you encountered the genres and realized you enjoyed them?

Asil Karu and Cabbage in Sidhe Park
Asil Karu and Cabbage in Sidhe Park

I fell in love with fantasy when I learned to read.  My grandmother had all the Andrew Lang fairy books and one of my earliest memories is turning the pages of those ancient books to wonder at the pictures.  As for Steampunk, I think I always was one, though I didn’t really understand it as a movement until I read Bruce Sterling‘s excellent essay, “The User’s Guide to Steampunk“.

Do you have a favorite Faire memory? What are you looking forward to most this year?

I don’t remember what year it was, I just remember it was the first place I saw the work of Elicio Ember and it both amazed and delighted me.  As a roleplayer, I’m most looking forward to “The Revenge of Professor Timmons“, but as a visitor, it’s The Faery Court that I plan to see as soon as the gates open.

Event Description

In NeoLondon [NeoVictoria SIM].  We meet Professor Timmons, working on his robot in the laboratory at the top of the castle where  he has reverse engineered the Strand technology he’s found.  He’s in conversation with Lord Coat; his sponsor.  They discuss their plans to destroy the Sidhe Empire by unleashing an army of murderous robots throughout the worlds of the Sidhe empire.

The Professor wakes the robot with a mysterious liquid and then shows Lord Coat how this construct, using Strand motes, is able to unmake a small lamp containing a human soul.  Meanwhile, in the tavern, conversation turns to the seldom seen Lord Coat and Sam Bellamy determines to do some reconnaissance; he overhears enough of their plot to send him in search of Magnus.

The roleplay continues in NeoLondon today … join us at 2:00 PM, SecondLife-time or tune in tomorrow!

The Castle of the Snake

Timmons and the Robot
Professor Heironymous Timmons connects the oiling tube to the still, silent robot lying on the table before him. Red oil flows through the tube and into the robot’s systems, coating every gear.
Lord Coat Watches
Lord Coat was slow to approach the table with the bot, and looked down into its face. “Good to ssssssee thissss sssspace being put to usssse, Professssor.”
Professor Timmons and Lord Coat wait for a reaction.
Professor Timmons and Lord Coat wait for the Strand motes within the construct to react.
Working on the Robot
Deep within the construct, millions of tiny machines began to stir in earnest. They whisper a secret language of ones and zeros, sharing bits of information as they take ownership of this new vessel.
Sam approaches the castle
Samuel Bellamy stood up he was determined to get a sight of the goings-on. Now to see if Sam can avoid any guards set up in the castle.
Sam at the Castle
Samuel Bellamy: Super Fennec ears go! He wasn’t near the door. Sam didn’t need to be to overhear the conversation.
Watching the Robot
Professor Heironymous Timmons grins in satisfaction as the robot walks forward. He sets the lamp down and steps back from it. “Now you know what to do, don’t you?” the professor says as if speaking to a child. “Show us your power!”
The Seal is Breached
The runes which hold the souls in place have never been broken, nor can they be; the rune is the word and that word cannot be unsaid once it is spoken. But, they have a weakness built into their making …they do not last forever, they cannot; that is the promise of the Soul Caster’s Guild, each soul gives a bit of its eternal life for a certain period of time and then it set free. The motes pull the energy from the lamp faster … faster still … they resonate that the same frequency as the soul within and they consume its power, speeding up the time that the rune records. Seconds become days, then years. The construct’s metal skin begins to glow as its takes in 80 years of power in a few moments.
Lord Coat Reacts
Lord Coat couldn’t help but step back and take a long look at the Professor. These eccentrics, he thought, so unnerving. “Well, I’m ssssure we could come up with ssssomething jussst asss effective. Mayhapssss not precissssely sssso evident.” He dismissed politely. “Believe me, they will know their reckoning. But pleassse, do tell me again of you’re feud with thissss backwater world.”
Professor Heironymous Timmons
Professor Heironymous Timmons quivers with a mix of nervousness and outrage. “You mean you’ve forgotten already!? How could you forget the headlines! ‘Local scientist discovers breakthrough advance soul cage utilization!’ Oh yes, you wouldn’t remember, because they never got published!
Lord Coat on the Balcony
Lord Coat laughs uproaringly, taking flight to glide around the room, his voice suddenly booming and foreboding – echoing several voices at once. “Timmonsssss.. I have only sssseen one bot disssmantle one lamp.
