About the Fae

In human mythology, the “people of peace”, sometimes called fairies, or fae, are a universal phenomenon, known to every country and people of the world. While similarities exists between these legends, the lore of the Neo-Verse takes the tales of pre-Christian Scandinavia and the Celtic peoples as its primary inspiration.

The fae come to us through the prism of the oldest of the stories; in the Edda, we’re told of the nine world: Asgard (Aesir, the land of the gods), Alfheim (land of the light elves), Vanaheim (land of the Vanir), Midgard (the land of men), Jotunheim (the land of ice giants), Svartalfheim (land of the dark-elves), Nidavellir (land of the dwarves), Muspelheim (land of the fire spirits), and Niflheim (the land of the dead).

Yggdrasill
I know an ash standing high, a lofty tree, laved with limpid water: thence come the dews into the dales that fall; ever stands it green over Urd’s fountain.
~ the Poetic Edda

Svartalfheim, the home of the dark elves, was the most easily entered by humankind, because its doorways were found in the underground places. These fae were the earth-dwellers, the people of the hollow-hills, the spirits of earth and tree, stone and spring. In effect, they were the anthropomorphic representatives of the natural world.

In the history of those ancestors, when their gods (the Aesir) were destroyed in apocalypse (Ragnarok), the bridges between the nine worlds collapsed and the cosmos was divided, so all the races were lost to each other and the dominion of man over Midgard began in earnest.

In the Neo’Verse, the fae did not disappear …in our fantasy realm, a warrior queen of the elves, and those who would follow her, refused to fade from the world of men.  Instead they made peace with these changes and harnessed the creative energy of humankind to create a blended empire of supernatural and mortal creatures.

The NeoVictoria Project presents a Clockwerk Gala

a Clockwerk Gala to Honor the Veterans of the Sidhe Empire

An evening of roleplay, celebrating the Sidhe empire’s clockwerk warriors!

This Tuesday, we have an exciting event scheduled: our first ever clockwerk ball!

Time: Tuesday, 11 November 2014 from 6pm to 9pm, SL-time
Location: Cathedral of Air & Darkness, NeoLondon [NeoVictoria SIM]
Event Type: in-character party (known, and unknown, characters welcome)
Organized By: Kitiarafox & Fianah Mistwood
SLUrl: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/NeoVictoria/17/128/1004

Often sponsored by local veteran associations, “Clockwerk Galas” are very popular affairs, serving as fund-raisers and recruitment.  The most amazing is held every Fall in Old London on Old Earth.  It runs a fortnight with the oldest houses vying to raise the most money with fantastical parties and auctions.  The “Royal Clockwerk Ball” closes the festivities; it’s held in Buckingham Slithen and all the Court attends.  Here the most valiant of the year’s warriors are awarded the Sidhe Cross.

The NeoLondoners are planning one evening of celebration, in the nave of the great Cathedral.  All clockwerks are welcome.  Miss Tikta and Miss Kit are hosting, with all proceeds going to the local veteran’s association. [This is roleplay; no actual money is being raised.]

In the Sidhe Empire we find three kinds of mecha.

  • Augments (living creatures with clockwerk parts),
  • Automatons (clockwerk dolls housing conscious souls),
  • and Strand Constructs (golems of pure machine consciousness).

To learn more about how to play a clockwerk character in the Neo’Verse, read the excerpt on the Cyborg Concordance on this site and join in the fun!

About the Roleplay: In NeoVictoria, we do free-form dark roleplay.  Free-form means there is no script; scenes evolve out of real-time character interactions.  Dark roleplay means that characters often act in aggressive, predatory, criminal and/or plain uncomfortable ways.  We use a simple dice-based wearable HUD called the Jade Kreations Role Play Tool Suite; avatars must wear this to see roleplay chat.  The item is free and available in the out-of-character skymall.

Players do not have to be a member of our group to roleplay here; we ask newcomers take a tour of the Visitor Center in NeoVictoria SIM to learn about the storyworld before joining in the roleplay.

[Observer tags are also available for players who want to visit the land level, but not roleplay.]
